Altogether, the interviews comprise one of the largest and most important collections of jazz oral histories anywhere. The musicians interviewed span the history of jazz, from the 1920s into the 2010s and cover a broad range of disciplines—broader, perhaps, than other jazz oral history archives: performers, composers, arrangers, educators, writers, producers, engineers, club owners, and dancers. Many of these figures are now deceased, but their voices live on, and will live on, through the Smithsonian.
