Produced in cooperation with the Library of Congress, the multi-CD and vinyl set will shine a spotlight on the acoustic-era selections included on the Registry and will point up the challenges of preserving historic audio and making it accessible to an eager public. A new, four-pronged model of preservation has been followed in preparing the release: it’s a cycle of conservation, transformation, restoration, and presentation, which will inform the speakers’ comments. Matt Barton, of the Recorded Sound Division at the Library of Congress, will give an inside look at how the Registry works and who is involved in making the selections. The set’s co-producer, David Giovannoni, will discuss the fruitful private-public partnerships that have culminated in the successful completion of the project. And co-producers and Archeophone label owners Meagan Hennessey and Richard Martin will unveil the contents of Saved in Time, how it is organized, and the joys that await.
