Unfortunately, however, collection relocations are sometimes a simple fact of life.\u003c/p\u003e\r\n\u003cp\u003eAs intellectual entities, they may be highly organized with detailed inventories, loosely organized with minimal description, or not organized at all. And while the relocation of recorded sound collections can present challenges, preparing these materials for movement can also offer opportunities for assessments, inventorying and stabilization activities that will open doors for better collection management downstream.\u003c/p\u003e\r\n\u003cp\u003eThis session focuses on a project undertaken by the University of Missouri - Kansas City and Iron Mountain to pack, stabilize, and move a large broadcast collection approximately 1,300 miles from the donor’s private residence to the Marr Sound Archives on the UMKC campus. The collection includes radio broadcasts dating from the 1920s to 2000s on a variety of formats from lacquer discs and vinyl to quarter-inch open reel tapes and compact discs.
